Official Rules

• Entries submitted from each open house must be on $5-Grand-In-Hand official entry blanks.

• Each entry must be signed by the entrant before it will be considered for qualification.

• Each entry form must be completely filled out to be considered for qualification.

• Only original forms and signatures will be considered for qualification.

• Realtor/Agent must completely fill out and return the $5-Grand-In-Hand verification form with entries from each open house.

• Realtor/Agent must sign the verification form in the space provided, confirming that the information submitted is correct.

• Entries will be accepted from each open house up until 4 pm on the Wednesday following the open house.

• The Winston-Salem Journal will award each winner $5,000 toward the purchase of a primary residence that is purchased within Forsyth County or an adjoining county. (A primary residence is defined as a housing unit occupied by the winner as a year-round home. It may be a condominium or detached, single-family home. The eligible counties are: Forsyth, Stokes, Surry, Guilford, Davidson, Davie and Yadkin.)

• Purchasing is defined as a closing in which title of residence is transferred by appropriate legal documents.

• Entrants must be at least 18 years of age or older.

• Employees of the Winston-Salem Journal or of a participating Realtor and their immediate family members are not eligible to win. (Immediate family is defined as one's parents, children, siblings, parent-in-law, son-in-law or daughter-in-law.) If the entrant is married, the definitions apply to the spouse's relatives as well as the entrant's.

• Any qualified adult may enter by: (a) going personally during the advertised open house hours to one or more of the many participating open houses advertising in each week's issue of the Winston-Salem Journal's Homeplace; and (b) filling out an entry blank at the participating open house. No purchase is required to enter the contest.

• Participants may enter only once at any single open house.

• Each week entries from all open houses will be returned to the Journal. A contest finalist will be drawn from the qualifying entries at each open house. Entries not selected will be discarded.

• No individual can become a finalist more than one time in a month.

• Names of the qualifiers from each open house and the overall monthly winner will be published in subsequent issues of Homeplace. A list of winners may be obtained by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: '$5-Grand- In-Hand Qualifier List, c/o Winston-Salem Journal, 418 N. Marshall St., Winston-Salem, NC, 27101.'

• One winner will be selected each calendar month by a random drawing of all the finalists. The monthly drawing will be held prior to or on the Friday after the last weekend of the month at the offices of the Winston-Salem Journal, 418 N. Marshall St., Winston-Salem, NC. Each winner will be notified by telephone or certified mail and may be required to prove identity and age.

• Winners are required to complete and return Federal Form W-9 to the Winston-Salem Journal within 30 days upon notification or prior to closing if closing is less than 30 days of notification.

• Once notified, the winner will have 180 days to purchase a primary residence within Forsyth County or an adjoining county. The prize will be awarded to the winner at the closing and will be in the form of a check made jointly to the winner and the closing attorney. Upon notification of winning, an entrant will be furnished a contact person at the Journal. It will be the winner's responsibility to furnish the Journal with all applicable information, including a copy of the contract to purchase, the date of closing and the name of the closing attorney. The amount of the prize will be $5,000. The residence must show the winner as the owner or co-owner of the property. In the event a winning entrant fails to claim his/her prize or purchase a home within the 180-day period, no prize will be awarded for that month.

• The winner will be responsible for any tax liabilities associated with the prize.

• Odds of winning depend on number of qualified entries. The Journal may conclude the contest at any time by publishing notice of its intention to do so seven (7) days or more before contest ends. Rules are subject to change for future months upon seven (7) days notice before the start of any month.

• By entering, each winner agrees to the use of his/her name, photograph and/or voice in promotional materials for the Winston-Salem Journal for a period of up to two years following the time of entry. Previous winners and members of their immediate families are not eligible for future month's contests.

• All prizes will be awarded in conformance with the rules of this contest as printed here, subject to the definitions below. Any entry may be disqualified for failing to follow the rules of the contest stated above. In the event a winning entrant fails to claim his/her prize or purchase a home within the 180 day period, no prize will be awarded for that month.

• All federal, state and local regulations apply. Void where prohibited by law.

• Prize may not be transferred to any other individual.

• No substitutions for the prize are available.

• Homeplace is the Journal's Sunday real estate section. A new issue of Homeplace is published each week.
