Leonard Ryden Burr Real Estate is involved in many philanthropic efforts, and the United Way of North Carolina recently recognized one of those endeavors by naming the real-estate company to its list of 25 Spirit Award winners.

Given each year to honor companies who demonstrate outstanding commitment to the United Way organization through involvement on the local level, the Spirit Awards were created to "recognize companies and their employees that demonstrate United Way campaign excellence, a high level of enthusiasm and long-lasting community commitment," according to United Way representatives. Leonard Ryden Burr sales associates and staff donated more than $23,000 to United Way in 2007 and had a 210 percent increase in leadership dollars.

"More important, Leonard Ryden Burr has a proud record of 100 percent participation since we started our company," said LRB partner Greg White. "Our firm's per-capita giving has also increased significantly during the last three years, going from $284 in 2005 to $539 in 2007."

Six additional Winston-Salem companies were recognized as Spirit Award winners during the annual United Way meeting in Pinehurst. The companies included R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice PLLC, B/E Aerospace, Wake Forest University, Amarr Garage Doors and BB&T.

"We are honored for Leonard Ryden Burr to be recognized by the United Way of North Carolina, and to be included among an elite group of people and businesses from Forsyth County who gave generously to support such a worthwhile cause," said LRB partner Brooke Burr. "Seven of the 25 businesses and organizations that received the 2008 Spirit Awards are located in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. That makes all of us at Leonard Ryden Burr incredibly proud to call this community home and to be associated with the other local award recipients."
