E.J. Hanes is a familiar name to many people in the residential-construction market, and the local builder is raising his company’s profile even higher with the addition of a new design center in Winston-Salem. Housed in the E.J. Hanes Construction offices on Clemmonsville Road, the new design center will serve Hanes’ residential clients, offering buyers the opportunity to customize their homes with a variety of upscale products.

"We wanted our customers to be able to visualize the interior of their home," said Loye Hanes, the chief operating officer of E.J.Hanes Construction. "They can come to our design center and see kitchens complete with countertops, backsplashes, sinks and faucets. We have the latest trends and styles at our fingertips, and customers can touch and test products and see how they function. They won’t be forced to select from catalogs or tiny little samples."

A full-time design specialist will be available to guide customers in the selection process, and Hanes said that there will also be a playroom for children on site to keep little ones entertained while Mom and Dad are choosing items for the home.

"Customers will have thousands of options," Hanes said. "There are six kitchens, all with different choices for countertops, backsplashes and sinks. The customer can stand inside the kitchen and visualize it in their home. We have Marsh cabinets in oak, white, maple and cherry, with stain and glaze options. Countertops are available in laminate, solid surface, granite and quartz. We have two walls of Delta faucets in many finishes and styles. Flooring includes Mohawk carpet, vinyl and hardwoods. The outdoor area includes brick/mortar combinations, cultured stone, windows and roofing options."

Hanes said that the customers she works with are looking for functional house plans with usable square footage. Many buyers are also requesting designs that accommodate main-level living and want interior features that are low-maintenance.

"Clients that have chosen us to build their home can spend time with the design specialist," Hanes said. "The specialist will help them make all the selections for their home, and they can choose items that fit their style and budget. They will not be asked to visit a number of vendors to make selections, and we can generate a written quote within one day."

E.J. Hanes Construction was founded in 1994, and Loye Hanes works with her father, E.J. Hanes and her sister, LaRue Hanes Creson, on residential-construction projects in many Triad neighborhoods, including Hope Crossing, Meadow’s Edge, Haven Way, Fair Oaks, Salem Glen, Meadowbrook and Springfield Forest. The company currently has more than 40 lots available for custom construction and has begun developing acreage in the Pfafftown area for a new community. Hanes expects the design center to complement the company’s existing services.
