Coldwell Banker Triad, Realtors celebrates growth during annual awards luncheon

CBTR owners receive the Chairman's Circle Award: John Faircloth, vice president (left); Beverly Godfrey, president and CEO; Daryl Lundy, Coldwell Banker Real Estate Corp; and Steve Culler, CFO.By Cindy Hodnett

If local awards banquets are any indication, Triad real-estate agents are in an enviable position. Supported by strong companies with deep roots in the community, local Realtors are not experiencing the same market problems as agents in other parts of the country, and at offices like those of Coldwell Banker Triad, Realtors, the future looks as bright as ever.

At the 11th annual awards celebration for Coldwell Banker Triad, Realtors, company CEO Beverly Godfrey commended CBTR sales associates for an outstanding year in 2007 and said that the company is poised to experience continued success in 2008. Pointing to the guidance of her father, company founder Lewis Hubbard, Godfrey shared stories that illustrate Coldwell Banker Triad, Realtors' commonsense approach to the real-estate market and promised to help CBTR agents remain successful.

"Growing up in this business, I have seen a lot of changes," Godfrey said. "I have also seen a lot of ups and downs in the market, and along the way, I learned many lessons from my parents. The first lesson comes from a cartoon my Dad used to keep under the glass top on his desk. It read, ‘Dear Lord, please let there be just one more real-estate boom, and this time I promise I won't fritter it away."

"We all know that in 2007 the national media had a heyday with the ‘blood in the water' stories about the housing bubble bursting," Godfrey said. "But the good news is, CBTR did learn from Dad's cartoon. We have been fortunate that we didn't ‘fritter it all away' during the boom. We're solid, and we're here for the long term."

During 2007, three CBTR employees lost their battles with cancer and ALS. In addition, each of the seven branches and three offices also included an employee who lost a spouse, parent, sibling or friend. Godfrey said that the losses encouraged Coldwell Banker Triad to increase its corporate charitable work and community-outreach efforts.

"The good news is that we didn't retreat from the world as a result of our losses," she said. "If anything, we embraced it more fully — again going back to one of the basics — reaching out and connecting with people and our community."

Part of the CBTR charitable effort included a partnership with the North Carolina Kids Adoption and Foster Care Network. In November, CBTR offices displayed photos of kids in need of a home in their main lobby, inviting the public to learn more about the children. At the end of January, 23 of the 30 children featured were placed with families who wanted to adopt them.

Godfrey said that CBTR will continue to support the company's agents and the surrounding community by sticking to some tried-and-true business philosophies.

"We promise to do what the company has always done," she said. "We'll focus on the basics, watch our pennies, continue to promote the positive aspects of the economic growth and health in our communities, and just to be on the safe side — we'll pray for that next real-estate boom!"
