Scenic Surroundings

This upscale gated development offers natural surroundings, quality homes and a slice of local history.By Cindy Hodnett
HomePlace Writer

No matter what you want in a scenic neighborhood vista, Mill House Place can accommodate. If you're a buyer who wants to be directly on the water, the neighborhood's lakefront lots fit the bill. If you like to see the water but don't care to have it as part of your backyard, a lakeview homesite might be in order. And if you'd rather create a lush, green garden or natural rainbow of flowers as a backdrop for your home, then the garden area is likely to appeal. Regardless of your preference, this upscale gated development near the intersection of Robinhood and Milhaven roads offers beautiful natural surroundings, quality homes and an interesting slice of local history.

"This piece of land was not only home for my family, but it really was the 'neighborhood headquarters' for all people in that part of the country back in the early 1900s," said Jerry Lineback, the developer of Mill House Place and grandson of Ellis Armenius and Odella Craft Lineback, the original owners of the land. "I've been thinking about creating a special development on my family's site for a long time. For at least 20 years, I've had a plan tucked away in my mind and on paper."

Lineback said that he planned Mill House Place to be a low-density development, and that the streets of the community were designed to maximize the land's topography. Although only 15 minutes from downtown, Mill House Place seems like an "out in the country" neighborhood, and the convenient accessibility adds to the appeal.

"Mill House Place is a prime location unlike any other neighborhood in Winston-Salem," Lineback said. "With just a single visit, you can appreciate the 'look and feel' of the land. I'm thrilled to see development finally happening on my family's historic land, and I look forward to living there myself."

Three spec homes in Mill House Place are scheduled to be completed this summer, and three additional custom homes are also under way. Spec homes range from 2,200 to 3,200 square feet and begin at $564,900.

"This limited offering at Mill House Place is for a select group of discerning buyers," said Leonard Ryden Burr's Greg White. "A home at Mill House Place offers Old World charm and the allure of a lakeside neighborhood, all with convenient access to Winston-Salem and other areas of Forsyth County."

The different areas of Mill House Place include Village lots, Lake Estate lots and Della's Garden, a small community within the community that consists of eight garden homes anchored by a central garden. Each home will draw influence from European cottage architecture and will feature a private patio garden.

"Mill House Place is being developed on one of the most beautiful pieces of land in Forsyth County," White said. "The planning and development are being carefully done to preserve the natural beauty of the land for future generations. The Mill House Place developers are wisely emphasizing timeless distinction instead of density."

To visit Mill House Place today from 1 to 5 p.m., take I-40 Business West from downtown and follow to exit 2B (Silas Creek Parkway North); continue about 2.1 miles and take the Robinhood Road exit; turn right onto Robinhood Road and continue approximately 2.5 miles to left on Milhaven Road; turn at first right onto Pheasant Lane into Mill House Place.
